About Us

Our Heritage Journey

A family legacy rooted in compassion, service, and the enduring commitment to uplifting communities across Sri Lanka.

Family Heritage

Our Royal Heritage

The historic origins of the Royal Muttaiah Family trace back to the prominent regional leadership of Tiruchirappalli (Trichy), Chennai, and Mysore in South India, rooted in an era of cultural preservation and extensive community governance. Over the centuries, these noble lineages expanded across borders, migrating to Sri Lanka and weaving into the foundational history of prestigious regions like Jayawardanapura, Mount Lavinia, Panadura, and Raigama.

Throughout these transitions, the family has stood as a pillar of strength—supporting local livelihoods, establishing spiritual sanctuaries, and fostering peace. Today, this profound legacy is not just historical memory; it is an active mission of compassion.

The Visionary: Kumara Sriyananda

The modern driving force behind the foundation is Kumara Sriyananda. Born in Colombo, Sri Lanka, Kumara is a multi-faceted leader, artist, and former political figure who has dedicated his life to transforming his family’s ancestral honor into a structured, sustainable vehicle for community development.

As the son of the late Tamil nationality holder Baktharajah Muttaiah and Sinhala noble descendant Dona Pathma Irangani Jayathunga, Kumara beautifully embodies the harmonious, multicultural unity of Sri Lanka. His rich background in leadership and social welfare led him to establish formal charitable frameworks, including the Kumara Sriyananda Foundation and the Sri Lanka Royal Council Associate Ltd.

Stepping away from formal politics to focus entirely on global welfare, Kumara serves as the sole administrator and primary benefactor, personally overseeing the foundation’s charitable operations.

The Muttaiah & Jayatunga Family Tree

“Our family tree is the architectural blueprint of our accountability and deep-rooted honor.”

For worldwide donors and international partners, our historically documented lineage serves as an absolute testament to authenticity and transparency. The family tree maps the convergence of two historic dynasties:

  • The South Indian Lineage (Muttaiah Ancestry): Tracing from Great-Grandparents Murugan Muttaiah & Sandana Mahal (Chennai) and Muththusamy Udayar & Ponnamah Udayar (Bangalore/Mysore), converging through Grandparents Arumugam Murugan Muttaiah & Wela Amma Udayar with historic ties to Singha puram and Vijaya Nagar.

  • The Sri Lankan Lineage (Jayatunga Ancestry): Tracing from Great-Grandparents Don Jayathunga & Dona Jayathunga (Mount Lavinia/Jayawardanapura) and Don Gunathilaka & Dona Gunathilaka (Panadura/Raigama), converging through Grandparents Don Edward Jayathunga & Dona Doora Gunathilaka with ancestral roots in Gampola and Raigampura.

This ultimate union of Father Baktharajah Muttaiah and Mother Dona Pathma Irangani Jayathunga culminates in Kumara Sriyananda, making him the living bridge of this grand dual-heritage history.
